• Supports PAM-3 signaling and encoding in order to help reduce bandwidth over cable.
• Due to echo canceller functionality, this type of ethernet carry bi-directional data transfer on single pair.
• It meets EMI specification due to lower bandwidth e.g. 27 MHz or 62.5 MHz.
• 802.3bp standard supports 1G data rate over single twisted pair which links upto 15M connections. This new physical layer (i.e. PHY) is known as 1000Base-T1. Here digit '1' in 'T1' stands for single pair.

Energy Efficient Ethernet

As we know electrical components of a car doe not turn off when engine is in OFF condition. Battery capacity is limited when engine is in OFF state. This ethernet type is useful to minimize power consumption. This is achieved by turning off network segments when engine is OFF and use EEE type of ethernet is used when engine is ON. The nameenergy efficient ethernethas been derived from this functionality.

Power Over Ethernet-PoE

Following are the features ofPower Over Ethernet(PoE).
• This is developed with minor modification to existing PoE standard.
• This has less wiring.
• The standard 801.3bu which is under development specifies PoE over a single pair.
• It is known as PoDL i.e. One Pair Power Over Data Lines.

Gigabit Ethernet (GIG-E)

Following are the features ofGigabit Ethernet.
• It meets EMC requirement of automotive vehicles.
• It supports 15 meter range over unshielded automotive cabling.
• It supports gigabit ethernet MAC interfaces e.g. SGMII/RGMII/GMII and are defined in IEEE standard specifications.
• 1000Base-T1 draft standard is currently under development which defines gigabit ethernet PHY transceiver specifications. Following are the merits of 1000Base-T1 as mentioned below.
-Suitable for High Speed Video links.
-Support 100 Mbps uplink video channels.
-Can use cost effective unshielded cables.
-Light in weight and flexible to use
